Tips for Foreign Students – Surviving in British Universities

December 6th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Education
The United Kingdom is one of the most popular study destinations for foreign students. Every year the number of international students coming to the country to study is rapidly and constantly increasing, and that is not very surprising. Through the years, many UK-based universities have been successfully increasing their reputation so that they would be more recognized throughout the globe.
With numerous foreign students enrolling in major UK universities, there are many exposed problems and setbacks. Since the UK is a modern and western country, foreign students especially from Asia and Africa are finding it hard to initially cope and adjust to the prevailing culture and many foreign students do not last the stay of their studying course in the UK due to culture shock. However, those students should have striven to do better, as the UK will not (and shouldn’t really) adjust to accommodate them. They should assert themselves to cope up with the British environment and norms.
Here are several simple tips that will help many foreign students survive studying in the UK:
- Foreign students are assigned mentors who are faculty members. Make sure you regularly consult with your mentor and ask for guidance and help about specific academic challenges.
- Always seek help and assistance from your university’s student advice/support centre. Such centres have been established to answer your every query, whether it is about academia, socialising or visa extension. You can also ask about comfortable lodgings as well as referrals for part-time jobs if you need one.
- Try to interact with other foreign students of the same nationality as yours. You will be more comfortable interacting with them and asking them advice and recommendations about many things related to your stay at the university.
Overall, British universities are cordial to foreign students, just be observant and equally friendly, and you will survive.

NYC Educational Entertainment

Learning opportunities abound in New York City. These opportunities are not all in boring atmospheres or hallowed halls of learning but in interactive experiences that are widely available to young and old alike in many brightly lit and fun to explore corners of this great city. We are never too old for learning and we can never have too much fun. Whether you are young, have youngsters of your own, or are simply young at heart, New York City has a lot of entertaining ways to educate you.
Perhaps one of the neatest things to do in New York City is to pay a visit to the FDNY Fire Zone. General admission is free but if you wish to experience a Fire-Simulation presentation there are nominal fees involved (currently under $5 per person). The Fire Zone is a state of the art facility where fire safety is taught. Kids, big and little alike, enjoy the fact that they can actually put their hands the equipment, try on the gear, and work with parents to establish an escape plan for their homes. Most importantly children to can learn what to do in this situation rather than being paralyzed by fear. This is one place that really should be on your list of places to visit while in New York City, the price is certainly nice and it could save a life.
The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art is another great place to spend a few hours and learn about the many different aspects of art, comics, and cartoons and what kind of role they have played in recording the history of our world. They offer different exhibitions at different times so this is a place you could definitely visit often in order to get the maximum enjoyment from the process. The hours for this particular museum are different than the average so be sure to make sure they will open to the public on the day and time you wish to visit. Current admission rates are $3 for children and adults over the age of 12.
Mount Vernon Hotel Museum and Garden is another great place to learn, this time it’s about history. This building is steeped in history and was once the home of the daughter of President Adams. Take a walk through history inside this lovely home turned hotel and then stroll around in the gardens outside. If you feel a need to get away from the big city while remaining in the big city this is a great place to visit and feel the air around you and forget about the fact that the nearest mall is actually very close by.
The Brooklyn Children’s Museum is great fun for kids of all ages, shapes, sizes, and nationalities. Fun after all, is a universal language and you will find plenty of that here. The good news is that this particular fun is actually well disguised education. The Brooklyn Children’s Museum was the very first museum of its kind, by that I mean the first museum that was dedicated to entertaining and educating children. It was a wildly successful experiment that is responsible for the 300 children’s museums now located around the world. The admission is very reasonable at $5 per person and children under the age of 1 are free. The museum is closed on Mondays during July and August and on Mondays and Tuesdays for the remainder of the year with the exception of certain public school recesses. It is best to check with the Museum if you are uncertain and hoping for a Tuesday visit.
The New York Hall of Science is another great learning experience that is available here. There is so much to do and see here and most importantly you get to play with many exciting new toys and such. Enjoy activities and exhibits that bring the science to magic and prove that they are not exactly mutually exclusive. Magic is after all, in the eye of the beholder. Exhibitions change frequently and always offer something fun for everyone. There are age appropriate activities for children and the science playground ($3 per person admission fee above the museum admission fee of $11 per adult and $8 per child is required for the playground) is always a big hit. Now you’re off to an excellent educational experience that everyone in your family will think was simply fun.

Connecting To The Other Side

November 29th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Self Improvment
I was sitting in my living room one day when a commercial came on for the Sci-Fi channel that said some guy was going to talk with the dead. This naturally grabbed my attention and the more I listened to how this person was going to connect with friends and loved ones who have crossed over a light switch flipped on for me. I had the “Ah-Ha” moment.
I immediately wondered how John Edward did what he did. I started watching every show there was to watch and became obsessed with trying to communicate to the other side. I just knew that it was something that I had to try and do. I watched every show over and over again to see how John received the information. I grabbed every book that I could to see how others used their abilities. Some I resonated with and some I did not. Then I went to the internet to talk with other Psychics about how they received their information. Most were helpful but there were some psychics who I felt were limiting themselves. They had told me not to worry about getting certain types of information. “Don’t worry about names” they said. But I knew that it was possible. John did it all the time. That became my mantra after a while. “Well John does it, why can’t I”?
After time and dedication and quitting my “real” job as a morning television host, I became a professional psychic medium. I have built up what I consider to be a successful practice doing readings, teaching classes and yes, doing Galleries. I also refer to them as “Psychic Tupperware Parties”. Much of what I do comes from watching John on Television and I hope that I will meet him one day to let him know how much he has changed my life.
The first hurdle that you will have to get over is the recognition and the openness to know that the information you receive could be coming from a higher source. Once you have acknowledged this inside of your self you have come eighty percent of the way. The rest is passion, desire and commitment. This is a field where you get out of it exactly what you put into it. Technically, the same is true of life itself. It’s like learning to sing or play soccer. How much effort and practice you put in is up to you. Do you want to sing at the Grand ‘Ol Opry or are you content with singing to your hearts content in the shower?
Many people do not want to work professionally such as I do or like John Edward. That’s okay…just because you get into this doesn’t mean that you are committed to doing readings and galleries. Some people just want to know that they are not going crazy. They want their lives to go a bit smoother by listening to that inner voice.
So what is your first step? Find out what your strength is. Do you have a very good imagination? Do you see things a little differently than other people? Do you always seem to get that gut feeling when something is not right? Break out in a sweat? What about when you come home, turn on the light and the light flickers?….sometimes it’s a sign….other times it just means that you have to go to Wal-Mart and get new bulb! My point is, don’t get too deep with this. It is very easy to go overboard and see too much into something and that can be just as clogging to the process as anything else.
So, back to your senses. Once you have figured out your strength, that is a good place to start. In future articles I will have some tips on how to find your strengths and enhance your psychic ability for whatever purpose you wish.

What You can Learn from a Private Investigation School

November 15th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Education
Although private investigation today is mostly done by retired policemen, it is often the case that some new blood is needed in order to energize a case. Some private investigators are too old to be running around trying to solve a case. Some would rather do the analysis and provide the answers from their desks. This means that young people have to be brought in who have training in Private Investigation. Most of these young people get their training from a Private investigation school. What do they learn fro such schools?
1) Criminology – put simply, criminology is the study of crime. Those who wish to become private investigators must know about the nature of crime. In order to solve a case, a private investigator must understand the facts of the case. He or she must be able to understand the thoughts of a criminal.
A good private investigation school needs to equip students with the proper tools in order to solve cases. This includes knowledge in forensics and psychology. Private investigation involves not only dealing with evidence but also dealing with people. That is the reason why private investigators need to be equipped with:
a) Forensics – although this is actually a very broad term referring to the application of science to the legal system. Today, it is often used in reference to the scientific analysis of evidence in order to uncover a crime.
Some of the work of private investigators may require them to go through evidence in search of clues used in solving a mystery. Evidence needs to be properly analyzed in order to yield results. This is the reason why private investigations teach this skill.
b) Psychology – private investigators need to interact with other people in order to solve cases. They need to interview. They need to provide opinion. They need to talk to officials. This is the reason why they need to learn psychology. Private investigation schools teach psychology to students because of the fact that people are inevitably involved in their work.
Psychology will also help a lot in profiling a criminal. By knowing how a criminal thinks, a private investigator can help stop that criminal.
2) Self defense – there are some instances when a private investigator may face life-threatening situations. This is because of the fact that they often deal with informants who more or less hate their guts. In the course of an investigation, a private investigator may also make a lot of enemies. Everybody hates meddlers, right? To prevent any harm, a private investigation school often teaches self-defense to students. There are two types of self-defense often taught today:
a) Armed – private investigators are often allowed to carry firearms for self-defense. Private investigation schools may teach proper usage of firearms to students in order to promote responsible use. A single mistake can cost a life when you are holding a gun. Private investigation schools do not want this to happen.
b) Unarmed – There are, of course, states which do not allow private investigators to carry firearms. This is the reason why private investigation schools teach unarmed combat styles to students. This could either be striking, grappling or mixed styles. They could teach “hard” styles such as karate or “soft” styles such as aikido. No martial art is more effective than the other. All are simply different.
